This image attempts to capture a vision, in mandala form, of the condition
of human existence and the process of becoming. Centered on the eye
of consciousness (our portal to the Godhead), the painting expands
out through symmetries of sun and moon (resembling embryonic cell
division) and the four elements that compose materiality. These make
up the circular body form which floats in ethereal space, supported
by the figure of death, dripping entropically from the bottom. The
four seasons representing time are represented by trees at the corners.
Man and Woman surmount the circle where they view the crown representing
both union and material realization of the spiritual potential. Man
looks a little edgy and the result of his reaching out for the crown
is left ambiguous. This piece appeared in Creation Spirituality
magazine in 1997, accompanying an article by Starhawk.
